Three dates, three different occasions
Southend United’s final three home friendlies before the National League opener all have a different reason to attend. Northampton Town visit Roots Hall on Wednesday 22 July at 7:30pm. Leyton Orient follow on Saturday 25 July at 3pm, before Aveley close the home programme on Saturday 1 August at 3pm.

Northampton on Wednesday night
Northampton arrive first for the only evening match in the run. Southend’s announcement and Northampton’s own preseason round-up both list the Wednesday date. Northampton Town are League Two opposition for 2026/27, as the Cobblers’ fixture-release update confirms.
It also begins a quick home turnaround, with the next match following three days later.
The JE3 Trophy on Saturday
Saturday’s meeting with Leyton Orient is the JE3 Trophy. Southend’s announcement says the fixture supports the Justin Edinburgh Foundation and its work to improve survival after cardiac arrest, including greater access to defibrillators and CPR awareness.
The match gives the second date a purpose beyond preseason minutes. Kick-off is at 3pm, and the direct Southend ticket product is the current route for supporters.
Aveley and the anniversary
Aveley visit a week later for the final Roots Hall friendly. Their preseason announcement confirms the Saturday 1 August date and 3pm kick-off, one week before Southend begin the league campaign at Altrincham.
The fixture is also part of Southend’s 120th-anniversary season. That makes the afternoon more than a final rehearsal: it is another chance to mark the club’s history at Roots Hall before competitive football returns.
