The road begins at Altrincham
Southend United’s 2026/27 Enterprise National League campaign will begin away at Altrincham on Saturday 8 August, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm. Southend published the fixture list on 10 July, turning the first weekend from an open space in the calendar into a definite destination.
Altrincham’s own fixture announcement confirms the same opening assignment. Two official club accounts point to Southend on the road, Altrincham waiting and the new league season under way.
A first date, not a forecast
Opening day always carries more emotional weight than one match can reasonably hold. It is the moment when close-season discussion gives way to competitive football and supporters see the first league evidence of how a team is coming together.
That does not make the afternoon a verdict on the campaign. One result cannot settle every question raised during the summer. What it can provide is an honest first reference point: how Southend approach the occasion, respond to difficult moments and carry their preparation into a match where points matter.
For the travelling support, the appeal is simpler. A date, an opponent and a kick-off time are confirmed. Plans can begin, familiar routines can return and the wait for competitive football has a visible end.
Mark the date
Supporters making the journey should use the linked club pages for any later practical updates. For now, the essential details are clear: Altrincham away, Saturday 8 August, 3pm.
The first whistle will not tell us everything about Southend’s season. It will tell us that the season is real, the calendar is moving and the next chapter has begun.
